on the radar: Uncharted Books
Uncharted Books sounds really interesting-it’s a used bookstore in Logan Square that’s been open for a little over a month (funded by Kickstarter!). Best described from their about page on their tumblr:
Uncharted Books opened in Logan Square on January 13, 2012.
We sell used literature and nonfiction, from vintage to almost new.
We will host open salons for writers,...
Tired from a day of travel and still recovering from a cold that unfortunately began the day the vacation started, I’m spending the evening in the burbs with my parents recovering and catching up on some of our favorite shows on the DVR before we call it a night. I’m not ready to return to the real world tomorrow after spending 5 great days in Beaver Creek, but had to share my...

Valentine's Day
Today was a wonderful day. I got some great news at work: my team won an exciting new project and I found out that I’ll be going on my first client presentation this spring. Exciting indeed! Feels like my hard work is paying off and I’m looking forward to what’s to come.
Also, just had a lovely single girl Valentine’s Day. A serene 5 mile bike ride home from work...
these past few weeks 2012 has started off pretty rocky. I’ve been working long hours, cranking out lots of reports, and handling all the major bumps in the road that seem to appear each day. I’ve learned to take life day by day lately and combat adversity with strength. My team is losing one of our great team members to another company after tomorrow and the news came as a surprise and...

You may love them or you hate them, but I fall very close to the ‘love’ end of the spectrum when it comes to rompers & jumpsuits. On a summer weekend you’ll often find me donning my favorite casual floral or chambray rompers, however I haven’t found a more formal jumpsuit I love enough to bring into the evenings and the colder months. Then came this Rebecca Taylor...

I was soo curious about Heritage Bicycles General Store that I swung by today and was completely impressed. It was freezing out, and the owner (Mike) let me bring my bike right into the store so I didn’t have to lock it up outside. Mike, his wife Melissa & their adorable 8 month old baby Bennett were chilling in the cafe (conveniently they live above the shop). Alan the friendly barista...

On the radar: Heritage Bicycles General Store
Tonight I’m spending time with relatives visiting from Atlanta and Knoxville. We’re having a big family pizza party at DUE’s, sure to be complete with lots of story telling, hugs & catch up time, my favorite! But, if I didn’t have these plans I’ll tell you where I’d be going: The grand opening of The Heritage General Store from 6-11 pm tonight. The...
Vacationing in Istanbul this March!
Well folks it’s official. I just booked my ticket for my first BIG vacation as an adult this March…I’m going to Istanbul, Turkey for a whole glorious week with two lovely friends - Ashley and Lizzy. We’re staying with some of Lizzy’s family friends (she grew up mainly in Turkey), and also got flights for DIRT cheap (i’m talking sub 6 hundo for a...
Happy 22nd Birthday sweet baby A! My sister Andrea turned 22 today. She’s a fashionista, dominates at bikram yoga & kickboxing, is insanely smart, is my music soul mate, has killer dance moves, and is an all around blast to spend time with. Love you so much An - cheers to you and here’s to a great year ahead (and hopefully you moving to Chicago for good after graduation in May)!!...
on themed parties
Recently I attended a wig party. The invitation included 2 simple rules: 1) wigs are mandatory & 2) friends always welcome. I can play by those instructions! We had a hilarious time at a store out in Boystown trying on wigs the afternoon before the party (I think I tried on at least 10 different looks). Ultimately I went with short blonde curls (and you can’t really see it, but it has...
This past weekend I toured the Goose Island Brewery (North & Clyborn). I can say that while their tour in no way rivals the great experience we had touring and tasting at Half Acre Beer Co earlier this month, it was a wonderful time to rally a great crew of friends together for a Saturday afternoon. I also tried my first bourbon barrel aged brew-The Maestro, and it was delicious!

Is anyone else eagerly anticipating the premiere of The Hunger Games Movie? To get in The Hunger Games spirit, my coworker shared this tumblr with me today and I’d thought I’d pass it along to all you other fans. Head on over to Capitol Couture for your does of The Hunger Games till the first movie hits theaters this March!
Tomorrow is Winter Bike to Work Day
Hey Chicagoans-tomorrow the Active Trasporation Alliance is hosting the annual Winter Bike to Work Day…if you dare take on 2 wheels in the cold! See you in the bike lane tomorrow?! (I realize that participating in this makes me crazy)
Stop by the Daley Plaza in Chicago’s Loop for the annual celebration of cyclists who don’t let low temperatures stop them from pedaling to work.

Camel, stripes, statement necklace, patterned pants, and leopard heels. On paper, it sounds like too much, but in the right proportions like seen above, I LOVE it. Another well done ensemble Lucy!

Half Acre Beer Co. Brewery Tour
Yesterday afternoon a few of my coworkers and I (that’s right, we chose to spend time together on a weekend) ventured up to the Northcenter neighborhood for the Half Acre Beer Co. Brewery Tour. The weather in Chicago has been unseasonably warm these past few days and I opted to take a long walk to the establishment, and it was so enjoyable to discover new places along the route. Back to the...
The other day my coworker Hallie & I showed up to the office wearing similar styling ensembles: burnt orange & hints of leopard print. She used this as inspiration for a post on her fashion blog Corals + Cognacs, and we had a fun time turning our usual lunch break into a photo shoot. The post is up today, so definitely head over to C+C to check it out, and also take in some of...
