on themed parties
Recently I attended a wig party. The invitation included 2 simple rules: 1) wigs are mandatory & 2) friends always welcome. I can play by those instructions! We had a hilarious time at a store out in Boystown trying on wigs the afternoon before the party (I think I tried on at least 10 different looks). Ultimately I went with short blonde curls (and you can’t really see it, but it has pink highlights on the left side too). For someone who has never dyed their hair from the natural brown color, it was a fun time to test out a completely new or outrageous look. We got many interesting glares/smiles/laughs as we commuted to the party on the bus, but once we arrived to the party we fit right in. True to instruction, nobody broke the rules-in fact, everyone there fully embraced their new ‘dos and some even took on an alter-ego. I believe that’s the key to a successful themed party-gathering with a group of people who can lovingly embrace any theme. What a fantastic night! (and when can I put this wig to good use again?!)
